Work Experience

Programmer |01 Sep 15 – current
Noord-Nederlands Effektenkantoor (Groningen)
Tasks included: developing the company’s four websites using the Sitefinity CMS; using and developing my skills in ASP.NET, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5 and CSS3.

At NNEK I am the sole developer of the company’s four websites. These websites all make use of not just static content, but dynamically generated pages shown on the front-end by custom developed ‘widgets’. The fact that I am developing these websites in order to be then filled and managed by a different department has caused me to build all functionality in a user-friendly manner, which requires as little knowledge about the technical aspects as possible.

Furthermore this position has taught me a lot about how to make the switch from a school to a company environment, developing new communicative and planning skills accordingly.

Game Design Intern |01 Sep 13 – 17 Jan 14
Falafel Games, Hangzhou (China)
Tasks included: meeting and working with a multidisciplinary team, in-depth analysis and evaluation of existing game to understand the game mechanics, implementing results in upcoming games.

I worked at Falafel games, a medium-sized gaming company for 20 weeks, performing a range of game design tasks. While working within a new and contrasting cultural environment, I learned how to be adaptive, pragmatic and creative, and how to communicate effectively. Due to my English proficiency, my work included being responsible for several translation tasks for their largest Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game (MMORPG). Working on numerous projects concurrently required flexibility and excellent organisational capabilities.

Furthermore, I participated in meetings with the Production Lead, Lead Developer, Lead Artist and other relevant personnel, learning how to work within a multidisciplinary team, with diverse and international backgrounds. Moreover, I was responsible for performing the in-depth analysis and evaluation of an existing online game, in order to understand the essential game mechanics and how the company’s new and upcoming game could benefit from these successful principles. I relished the opportunity to work in such a challenging, rich environment as part of a dynamic, international team.

My responsibilities included delivering a range of Italian foods within tight deadlines in a large area, and providing good customer service.

La Place, Groningen (Netherlands)
I worked in a high-pressured, lively, open kitchen, preparing a wide array of hot foods to order. My work required me to be able to process a multitude of tasks simultaneously while remaining competent and courteous. An open kitchen meant I had constant contact with the customers.
